Fall is here, what should I do with my hair?

As fall and the holidays approach most want a new style.  With the change in clothes comes the change in hair.  It will make you feel new again and freshen up the sun drained hair.  Make it rich and shiny.

1.  An oldie but, a goody... The pony tail!  This is not your gym pony tail either.  This is a sleek smooth finished pony tail.  High or low depending on your mood and length of hair.

2. Bangs! If you have them wear them.  They are very HOT this season.  Any kind full, or off to the side.  Just make sure you take the time to style them.   Blow dry bangs first, before your hair.  Use concentrated air so you can guide them in the right direction.
 3. Imperfect texture.  This is like the beachy wave.  Not frizzy hair!  So yes; all you naturally curly hair people you still must do your hair.

4. The Bob...  This is a timeless hairstyle.  It will compliment any shape of face if done with you face in mind. Bobs come in all different lengths and can be created on any texture of hair.

I hope this helped to inspire your new fall style!  make sure when trying a new style you stay in you comfort zone to ensure you will Love your style.  Go out and make the world beautiful.

Vote!

As all of you should know we have come upon a this November 6th 2012, voting day!!!  (Finally!).  I feel like this has been the longest election time in my life time.  I am so tired of all the negative ads on T.V. and I am awaiting the stop of that (as many of us are).

Most of you know that I am among other things a military wife...  My husband has been enlisted for 11 1/2 years.  We believe very strongly in taking advantage of our rights as Americans.  So Today is one of the days that we can all go out and do this!  It does not matter what side you are on.  Today, as a thank you to the many people who have given their life, family, and free time to make sure that we are able to do this one simple thing go out and do it!  What is stopping you anyway???

Now that I have said my 2 bits... VOTE!

Dirty Dirt

Is your flat iron dirty?  With build up from products?  If it is, it is probably not performing as well as it has in the past. Due to the heat not being able to break though that grime.  YUCK!

What I have found that works is this concoction of baking soda and hydrogen peroxide.
1. Mix the peroxide in with the baking soda till you form a paste like substance.
2.  Then you will simply take the paste and rub it on to the build up on the flat iron.  (This may take a bit of elbow grease)
3.  Now when you have removed all of the build up, take a damp rag and wipe of any residue from the concoction.
4.  Dry it off with a dry towel.

Vah-lah!  You have a "like new clean flat iron!"  I hope I have help to get some more life out of this great tool for you!

Blow OUT!

The Brazilian Blowout!  This has got to be my most favorite in salon treatment of my time.  As a stylist I have several clients that struggle with frizzy hair.  In addition, I have incredibly frizzy hair.  I have used this treatment myself.  It is incredible!  It recently has won the stylist choice award and... has been featured in articles around the world.  It can take unmanageable frizzy hair and make it healthy while still maintaining the volume and hold that your hair always had and providing shine!

Why is this treatment different form other smoothing treatments on the market you say??

They are the ONLY Professional Smoothing Treatment
that actually improves the health of the hair.
No Damage!

Entire in-salon treatment is completed in just 90 minutes! (for average lenght/thickness hair)

No down time! The minute you leave the salon, you can wash and air dry your hair, and it will be smooth, frizz-free and radiant!

Results last up to 12 weeks.

Leaves hair smooth, shiny, and frizz-free!

What is also nice is unlike other straightening products you do not have a grow out.  It just slowly looses its strength..  So no unsightly frizzy "roots"..

If you are someone who would benefit form this service I encourage you to check out their website http://www.brazilianblowout.com  and contact a certified  Brazilian Blowout stylist like myself at, Bloom Studio Salon.  Or one in your area!

Doing it Up, Style!

This weekend was full of weddings for me!  Which is always FUN!  My husband's cousin got hitched so, we attended that wedding. In addition to doing hair for a wedding at the salon...

Weddings are our time as adults to get all prettied up go out with our special someone.  But, always remember if you are not the Bride don't ever try to out do her and defiantly don't duplicate her hairstyle.  I know even as a brides maid you want to look gorgeous.  Take a step back because truly no one is really looking at you.  All eyes are on her.  She has spent months or sometimes years anticipating the way she will look, extra time and money practicing it.  Let her shine.

Therefore, lets learn some DIY wedding/party hair!  This is where that teasing blog I did will come into handy and also products I always tell you about that are so important.

Check out this link... martha stewart weddings  this is a  really good resource.  There is step by step and pictures.  Also some beauty tip too... never can get too many of them!

If your hair is shorter and you are unable to achieve these looks at home.  Get a good accessory!  like a head band or broach and pin it into the side of your hair.

One pound at a time

Today I am going to go a bit off the hair subject.  Because I do believe in order to really love your hair, style and life you have to love yourself.  At this point in my life I have learned that I feel like being in shape and feeling healthy are important to me.  So when Jeremy (my husband) was deployed this year.  I decided to commit to getting in shape and loosing weight.  It also helped that my BIG 30 birthday would approach right before his return.

I began this mission the day he left. Thanks to a pretty awesome sister  (sister-in-law, but she treats me like one.  So she earned the title) Trina. She kept me motivated and analysed every calorie that touched my lips.  Because, "What touches your lips for a minute, lives in your hips for a lifetime."   We did the Turbo Fire workout by Beach Body 6-7 days a week burning about 600 calories in about 40 min.  Also cutting calories back about 500 a week.  I did enjoy certain foods on occasion but, I was on a mission and nothing would get in my way.  I believe you need to feel like that to really loose weight because, it is hard work.  I learned you can read all the get skinny quick tricks, drinks, detox and pinterest workouts.  But the only way to skinny/healthy is hard work (no joke).

Before Jeremy left I was the heaviest that  I had ever been in my life; aside from being pregnant.  So I was successful in loosing nearly 30#.  He has now returned safe and sound and I would like to loose just 10 more pounds.  This is feeling harder than the first round.  Why???  Because I feel pretty good about myself and my accomplishments.  And for once in several years I can look at myself in the mirror (naked) and not feel disgusting.  Some of you might think she did not look bad... But, seriously I just wanted to share my story to say no matter how big or small you are it is all about how you feel about YOU in your own skin!  So if you are feeling Blah!  There is no time like now, to get up and get healthy!

So today starts round 2, for me.  I run a few days a week.  Started Insanity today which I hate but, it feels good when you get it out of the way.  So here goes nothing! Who is coming with me!?!

Teasing {101}

Who does not like great volume?  When you leave the salon you feel so peaked up but for some reason you have trouble recreating the look at home.  Well besides all the great product that we use learning how to tease  will help you recreate salon style at home. Teasing back combing and ratting (terrible word) are all the same.  This is a way to build a foundation to any hairstyle.   Your stylist will tease your hair after it is completely dry to give it that massive volume that we love.

This visual may help.

1. You will want to take a rat tail comb and section off zone #1. Pin it up and out of the way.

2. Then you need to take about 1 in. sections of zone 2 and from the left temple all the way around to the right temple. Be sure to spray each teased section with hair spray.

3. Comb hair back about one inch from the scalp to the scalp each section about 10 times.
{Do not be worried about what this looks like because it will not look pretty yet.}
4.  You will then un-clip zone 1  and smooth hair gently over the teased hair with a brush and into place zone one will cover the messy teasing.

This will help to give you awesome volume for dressy, regular or just pulling your hair into a pony tail days.

Tah-dah!!!! Teased Hair...

So, be sure to check back tomorrow as, I have a pretty cool blog in store for ya on teasing.   Stay tuned and  send your friends because it is not nice to keep all these beauty tips a secret, RIGHT!?

Check out this Bun!

This is a very simple Up-Style.

All you need is two hair ties and two bobby pins.  If you have very straight hair;  blow it out with product to give it as much volume as possible and then curl before continuing to the next steps (I did curl some of my hair before starting because, I did not want to top to be flat.)

Start off with a simple pony tail
Using another hair tie secure the hair in a half loop (just don't pull it through all the way)

Now work the hair around in a bun shape.  This does not have to be neat.

And secure with 2 bobby pins at the top and bottom.  If you feel like it is more secure if you add more, go for it!

Beachy Waves

Make sure you use some product in your hair to protect it from heat control frizz and hold style first.  This style should be done on completely dry hair. It will  work best on someone with a little natural texture.

1. Split and braid your hair into two sections and tie with a rubberband.

2. Twist the braid away from your face.

 3. Then twist the flat iron onto your hair in the same direction your hair is twisted. Do not touch rubberband or else you will get that weird crease. Repeat this process twice!

After hair is cooled, then take them out and run your fingers through the braid.

Casey Mae Gallaher

This is great way to start off a Monday and maybe connect with some of you.

If you knew me..

I really like singing loud with the windows down...even if I cant hold a note.
You would know that I never thought I would have 3 children or even give birth to 2,  pregnancy was rough.
I love coffee (the foo-foo kind), peanut butter and ice cream is by far my weakness.
I need my sleep and I get cranky when I am hungry.
I think it is a great day when I can make someone, anyone feel/look good.
I believe that folding and putting away clothes are by far the worst chores in my house.
Everyday I eat Greek yogurt with blueberries and 1/4cup of grape nuts (granola has too many calories).
If you really knew me, you would know that I love to go to church with my family and I pray one day my Mom and Dad would come too.
You would know that the only thing I am afraid of is traveling alone.
I like short vacations.
You would know Jeremy, my husband is my hero.
I cant tell anyone NO!
And...if you know me you know all my deepest secrets and there are not too many because, I talk too much.

What about you!?!

What an AMAZING Day!

Today I had the "treat" of going to the Leadership Summit.  The owner of the salon that I work at Bloom Studio Salon treated anyone who wanted to go to this 2 day pass of incredible insight and inspiration.  She is pretty AWESOME.  Oh boy,  did I take in a lot of information at this conference not only that applied to my business but, also in my personal family life also.

In Summary......
In order to grow in business you MUST think outside the box, step outside of the all so familiar comfort zone.  We all need to take risks to reap the benefits.  There is no reason that we can not become better at what we do there is always potential for growth...  You and only you are the only one holding you back!!!  Major "aha" for me today was,  that you need to honor the people around you especially the ones who have gotten you where you are today.  Above all else honor God with all you have because if it was not for him you would not be where you are today and without putting your trust in him you will stunt your growth in all life has to offer.    Never forget that you need those who came before you.  Never take for granted the life lessons of the past because they will come back to help you in your future.

We heard from one of a brother partnership they had an idea to start a non-profit company at the age of 12. Say What!  I feel like sometimes we just have no clue what out children are capable of.  It is the largest network of children helping children through education.  It is called,  Me to We.   By doing this they are creating a more compassionate and emphatic generation.  This hit me pretty hard.  As a Mom what I hope to teach my children is how to be respectful and how it is a pretty amazing day if you can make a positive difference in someones life. I would love teach my children to be independent and self-LESS.  I will be making it a point to teach my kids to do "small things with great love."  I think that they do not understand how lucky we are to be living the life we have even when times are rough, we still have clean water.  So it is our job to teach them and place them in situations where there heart will be humbled.

This is just a tiny bit of what I heard today but these were the topics that had a impact on me and I hope this touched your heart.  I am so thankful for Mackenzie that I had this opportunity and am excited to hear more tomorrow.

Casual Style

You can find it at: Forever 21, DSW, and Kohls
The head band is  a DIY check out post from today!

Oh So Simple Headband

This a very simple 10 min. no sew project and you can make it in absolutely any color, or maybe even two colors (that would be pretty fantastic!).

Things needed for this project:
Material, hot glue gun, and scissors

For this headband I used a pair of  stretch pants a pair that I was not going to ever wear again.  You could use any piece of clothing that would otherwise go to waste.
 1. cut one of the legs off and cut it into 2 pieces or, 2 pieces of material big enough to fit around your head. No real measuring required (gotta love that)
2. Cut a piece of material about this size and save it for later.  We will use this to make it look finished where we connect the ends of the headband
3. Now we can make the knot out of your two pieces of material...

4. Now PULL
5. Now it is time for the hot glue.
You need to attach to loose ends to each other on either side of the headband.

6.  It is time for the extra piece that I told you to hold on to, this is how you will make the headband round.  Glue to one side then the other.
Finally, wrap it around...Ta-Dah!! you have a headband...The best part it was FREE!

Why Sulfate Free?

Do you all wonder what all the rage is about sulfate free shampoo?  At this point all the professional lines of hair products have come out with sulfate free line of product.  However, your everyday grocery store brand still have this chemical in them.  As a Hairstylist I know that sulfates will reduce the longevity of your hair color.  I realize that people like to save money (so do I) but, we all have to realize that for certain things there is a reason why they are less expensive.  By far this is the truth with hair products.  They way I think of it is.  If you buy an expensive suit you would not even think of throwing it in the washing machine.  Your hair is an investment in the same way as the suit... so take it to the dry cleaners ;)

What we call sulfates is, Sodium Lauryl Sulfate (SLS)  it is a relatively inexpensive, yet rather powerful, grease cutting detergent that also aids in the foaming nature of soap. It's been used in all kinds of soap products from your shampoo to heavy de-greasing agents used on mechanic's shop floors.  Would you wash your hair with mechanics soap...  REALLY?   I want my soap to be foamy and I don't want oily hair. The problem is that, even in diluted quantities, sulfates cause an unhealthy scalp and hair.  Therefore, causing dandruff and weakened hair follicle causing hair loss eek!!!

I would love for you to try it and see for yourself the difference that you will experience when using a professional sulfate free shampoo.  Your hair color will last longer, your hair will feel better.  The best part is you will use less shampoo because, professional shampoo is more concentrated so you  only need a little bit. Also if you like a sudsy head, "add water not more soap".  Pureology is a line of all sulfate free products and they are for all hair textures.
